IIM Bangalore CAT 2023

CAT 2023: The Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore (IIM-B), has introduced some important modifications to its admission policy for the flagship postgraduate program that relies heavily on a candidate’s Common Admission Test (CAT) score.

Weightage Shift to Personal Interview

Under the revised admission policy, a substantial shift has occurred in the weightage given to the personal interview (PI) round. This year, the weightage for PI has been increased from 35% to 40%, reflecting IIM Bangalore’s commitment to evaluating candidates through face-to-face interactions.

Changes in Shortlisting and Final Selection Phases

To accommodate this shift, IIM Bangalore has adjusted the weightage attributed to marks obtained in Class 10 and 12 during the shortlisting phase, reducing it from 15% to 10% for each. Moreover, in the final stage of selection, the weight assigned to Class 10 and Class 12 marks has been lowered from 10% to 5%.

This alteration aims to place greater emphasis on a candidate’s performance in the personal interview, underlining the institute’s recognition of the significance of interpersonal skills and communication abilities in their postgraduate program.

Record-Breaking CAT 2023 Registrations

This year, CAT 2023 witnessed a remarkable surge in registrations, with a historic high of 3.3 lakh applicants compared to 2.55 lakh in the previous year and 2.31 lakh in 2021. Prof. Sanjeet Singh, the exam convener, commented on this development, stating, “About 3.3 lakh applicants have registered for CAT 2023, which is the highest in the history of CAT that started in 1977.” The admit cards are set to be released on October 25 (5 pm), with the results expected in the second week of January 2024.

These changes in the admission policy at IIM-Bangalore reflect the evolving priorities and evaluation criteria for candidates seeking to secure a spot in their prestigious postgraduate program, emphasizing the significance of personal interviews in the selection process and accommodating the growing interest in the CAT examination.
