France Extends 5-Year Schengen Visa to Indian Alumni, Aiming to Attract 30,000 Students by 2030

France has announced an enticing offer for Indian alumni, as it strives to welcome a substantial influx of 30,000 Indian students by 2030.

Following its recent introduction of an extended post-study work visa for Indian scholars, the European nation has now declared that even those Indian students who have completed just a semester of study in France can now avail themselves of a 5-year short-stay Schengen visa.

The reason behind this move, according to the official statement released by the French Embassy, is that the connection established when an Indian student spends time in France should be nurtured and treasured. To this end, Indian students who have attained a Master’s degree or higher and have experienced at least one semester of education in France are now eligible for this unique provision. This special arrangement is intended to enable Indian alumni to maintain close ties with France and their French counterparts.

Eligibility requirements dictate that applicants must have successfully completed a minimum of one semester of study in France and must have attained a Master’s level of education or higher from a recognized institution in India, France, or a third country. Additionally, candidates must submit a thoroughly completed visa application that adheres to the established Schengen requirements.

In support of this endeavor, the French Embassy has announced the ‘Choose France Tour 2023,’ a forthcoming event scheduled to take place across various regions of India throughout October. This initiative aims to communicate the message of France’s commitment to fostering strong academic and cultural connections with Indian students.

H.E. Mr. Emmanuel Lenain, the Ambassador of France to India, expressed his enthusiasm for this initiative, underscoring France’s longstanding tradition of inclusivity and its eagerness to offer exceptional cultural heritage and world-class educational prospects to Indian students. He assured Indian students that France will consistently stand as a steadfast friend, dedicating its efforts to ensuring a fulfilling academic and life experience for those who choose to pursue their education within its borders.

With a dynamic collaboration between the leaders of both nations, President Macron and Prime Minister Modi, actively driving these decisions in Paris to benefit students, the French Embassy’s teams are working tirelessly to execute these plans and create a welcoming environment for Indian scholars.
